Vimtag Cloud IP Camera

On 2017-09-03, I went to Comex 2017.  I passed by Vimtag booth and was impressed by the affordability of the cloud IP camera.

Cost is one of the key reasons holding me not to implement cloud IP camera.  From what I gathered, one has to setup Video NAS to store those video…setting up NAS can be quite expensive.  The other reasons is the fear of complexity in setting up the set, for instance,  one might need to posses some technicality in order to configure the IP camera and the IP camera needs IP address for it to work (we have to pay for a static IP address)…after clarified with the Vimtag’s staffs, I realized that I was wrong.

The High Definition (HD) version is only $80 and there is no other costs.  No IP address is needed too!  One can simply use a SD card of up to 128 GB to store the video… I decided to give it a try.

After setting up and installed, what impressed me of the set are:

  1. Ease of installation and setup – I set up the entire cloud IP camera in less than 15 minutes without even reading the manual!:
    1. Install Vimtag apps to my mobile.
    2. Sign up with username and password.
    3. Connect to the WiFi network.
    4. Once you connect to the WiFi network, you simply add the device by scanning the barcode which is located at the bottom of the camera.  That’s it.
  2. It has speaker function and can support two way communication.  It function like a walkie-talkie.  To talk, you need to tap and hold onto the phone.  But when you speak, you would not hear the other party’s voice.  You can hear only when you release the button.
  3. You can rotate the camera almost 360 degree and vertically up to 90 degree.  So you can rotate the camera to view the surroundings of the area monitored.
  4. You can zoom in up to 8X.

Full High Definition (FHD) is about $50 more expensive.  But I think, to begin with a HD set is sufficient.
